What does a student-centered, whole-child curriculum look like?

At Pathway, we’re committed to advancing access to learning for every student. Our learning materials are language-based and designed to support all learners. At Pathway, they’ll learn to process, organize, and comprehend text-based material in a framework built on years of educational and neurodevelopmental research.

Personalized program

Across the curriculum, a personalized, wholesome learning environment is created for every child — no matter their challenge. Each child is an individual and learns differently. Our individualized programs can cater to each child’s needs and allow the curriculum to evolve with the child.

Intellectual curiosity

At Pathway, curiosity and exploration go hand in hand with learning. A child’s natural excitement and inquisitiveness are encouraged in our engaging lessons. When a child is comfortable taking risks and making mistakes, the classroom is a safe place to learn.

Independence

Every child craves that empowering “can-do” feeling of success. We create opportunities for acquiring that independence, gently transitioning lesson plans from teacher instruction to self-driven learning. We make it our mission to break the cycle of failure and give every child the invigorating taste of success.

Reasoning skills

Learning the HOW of logical thinking and problem solving is just as important as learning the WHAT. Real learning is not just about facts, but about skills and achievements that are transferable to the real world. A Pathway child walks away with the skills to navigate life.

Solution-oriented

Where others see questions, we see answers. Our curriculum is designed to assess not just the child’s weaknesses, but more importantly, their strengths and abilities. We look at the whole child to see how they can use their assets to grow, develop, and meet their challenges.

Team-based approach

Teachers, therapists, administrators, and parental input are vital in developing each student's individualized program. The team's collaborative approach of sharing feedback, ongoing monitoring, assessing, and revising each child's program ensures that every child is poised for success.

Academics

Reading

Reading is the window to knowledge and the cornerstone of language acquisition and academic accomplishment. For a child with language challenges, learning to read can be one of the most difficult — and most rewarding — achievements. The science of foundational reading skills guide our systematic multisensory approach. Our curricula’s Orton-Gilligham base is enhanced by phonemic instruction, word study, fluency, vocabulary, schema development, and reading comprehension.

Writing

Pathway's writing program reinforces fundamental reading skills and promotes clear and effective written communication. The writing program empowers students to express themselves in writing by teaching students to write clear, linguistically advanced sentences and well-organized writings to express themselves. Pathway's writing curriculum teaches students to write informational, persuasive, and literary essays. Individualized programs created by our occupational and speech and language teams address challenges by fostering language acquisition, handwriting technique, and emergent literacy. Writing strategies and activities are applied systematically during structured writing time and are integrated into the instruction of all classes.

Mathematics

Pathway's math program uses a multi-sensory approach that helps students construct mathematical knowledge and meaning by gradually increasing the complexity and abstraction of concepts. We focus on a broad range of skills, including problem-solving, critical thinking, speed, and memorization. Because the curriculum is founded on visualization techniques and hands-on learning, language-challenged learners are taught to “see” math.

Judaic Studies

Pathway empowers students in recognizing their unique role in the Jewish community and imbues them with everlasting Jewish values. At our core is the value of "chanoch l'naar al pi darcho" — "teach each child according to their path." Pathway’s Hebrew curriculum is language-based, with the objectives of imparting a passion to learn and the ability to continue learning. Our program provides students with an immersive Hebrew learning experience that will last a lifetime.
